Friend, you made it! A whole week of memorizing God’s Word. But remember, this discipline isn’t just for you, it’s also so we are prepared to speak God’s truth over difficult and desperate moments.
I’ll never forget a moment many years ago when one of my closest friends received some devastating news while I was at her house. She went into a panic attack on the floor of her bathroom and all her mom and I could do in that moment was hold her and pray.
In that moment, though, God also brought his Word to my mind. I was able to speak large passages of Scripture over her in that moment, stringing disconnected passages together, saying them as best as I could remember, until I couldn’t think of anything else. It was imperfect, but for a few minutes God’s Word hung over her where no other words felt sufficient, all because God had enabled me to memorize those verses long before that day.
I share this story only to remind us that today’s preparation is often for tomorrow’s need. When God gives you the opportunity to speak into someone’s life, wouldn’t it be a comfort and a blessing to know that you have HIS words ready on your lips?
Today, I challenge you to put this into practice, even if it’s not for a desperate moment: share the verse you have memorized with someone! Your spouse or your kid, a friend or even a coworker – practice speaking God’s Word to others. You never know how God might use this simple moment to encourage someone in your life today!
