Malachi 2:6

They passed on to the people the truth of the instructions they received from me. They did not lie or cheat; they walked with me, living good and righteous lives, and they turned many from lives of sin. (NLT)

Behind the Scenes

Truth! Subjective, objective – is it consistent or fluid? Do you determine it or is it rooted in an unwavering constant? Does the truth set us free or is it binding?

These are all thoughts I wrestled with before I knew Jesus, before I trusted him. I had the knowledge that he wanted to rescue us from sin, but deep down, I didn’t believe it. Living in sin was the proof that I was blind to the truth – mired in the lies, it’s no wonder I couldn’t see that there was a better way. Although the temporary pleasures of living life however I wanted to always led to discontentment and regret, I chose that path time and again, yet took no ownership of my own demise.

You could probably make an educated guess, since you are reading this devo, that something changed, that there was a pivotal shift at some point. So, what was it?

Truth! As overly simplified as that may sound, it’s the answer. I got a taste of the truth in some profound and personal ways, and it was the most real thing I knew. From that moment on, my faith the size of a mustard seed began to grow. It was hard to see anything outside of this lens of truth, outside of this reality that behind every bit of brokenness, failure, or error, something better existed. At that moment, sin became suddenly less attractive, and I was determined to learn more about this better way.

Make it Real

Are you wondering if there is a better way? If there is a reality that exists where things just make sense, and it feels like you found what you were created for all along? Thankfully, I’ve got great news to share with you: You and I were designed for so much better than what this world has to offer.

Jesus, God in the flesh, embodied the truth (John 1:14), and he came so that we could have life – life abundantly (John 10:10). One of the outcomes of knowing the truth – I mean truly knowing, not just having heard of it as some distant idea we refuse to believe – is the realization that sin is leading us to death.  The truth, though, turns us away from sin and leads us to life.

Do you know the truth of who Jesus is, what you mean to him, and what he wants for you? The truth is powerful; the truth will set you free. Wherever you are in this journey, God has more truth to reveal to you today. It starts with the truth of Jesus, and it’s a lifelong path of rooting out every lie you’ve ever believed and revealing something so much greater.

End in Prayer

Jesus, thank you for opening my eyes. Thank you for showing me every day that you have a better way for me to walk in. Please continue to replace all the lies around me with truth so that I can walk in the path that you have for me. Amen!
