"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, -and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one.”

John 10:27-30

In the previous Chapter, Jesus opens the eyes of the blind man with spit and clay showing declaring and also fulfilling prophecy that he would restore sight to the blind. Even with this physical miracle showcasing His divinity, the pharisees would not believe in Jesus. Jesus uses this as the background to explain that there is only one way and that is through the door which is Jesus and there is only way to have fellowship with God and obtain salvation.

This section also echoes Jesus words in John14:6 that he is the only way to the father and to partake in God’s promised salvation. He likewise emphasizes that if someone attempts to enter not through the door but through another way that he is a thief and robber. Jesus goes further and says that those who enter by the door hear the shepherd’s voice He knows them by name. What a Promise!

Jesus is saying here that t Jesus knows you by name, has called you and, if you are a believer today, you have walked through the narrow door! Jesus goes on to tell us in verse fifteen and sixteen to explain His sacrificial death for His sheep and the unity with the father, “I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice”.

Not only does the shepherd call you by name to come through the narrow door but this same Shepard laid down His life for you on the cross so you could be personally reconciled to God through Him. This unity is beyond what we grasp but we have Jesus telling us the father are one in perfect harmony in the Trinity. Since Jesus is the God/Man (100% God and 100% man) He voluntarily and in agreement with the Father choose to come to earth to become a ransom for the many.

Moving back to verse 27 and 30, we see perfect unity in the Trinity here, the Father gives the Son a sheep i.e., Believers. The Son (Jesus) comes to earth and lays down His life for the sheep and the Holy Spirit is promised to by Jesus in John 16 to empower us and guide us in all truth. Since this is a divine transaction, Jesus promises that they will have eternal life and, take note of this, Jesus promises that no one is able to snatch you out of His hands!

We are given this same promise in Romans 8, we will have hardship in this life, there will be days when we don’t know how we can get out of bed, there will be times when we doubt, when we even walk away from God but even when we are faithless, God remains faithful and will never let us go. This is personally one of the greatest promises I have in my life! There is a possibility that best friends, family and even spouses may walk away from us, which is heartbreaking. But take hold of this dear reader, there is no possibility that God will ever leave you!

Oh, this day cling to Christ! Our faithful shepherd that has promised to never leave us! If you are a believer today, take heart and take courage, God has called you and His Holy Spirit will guide you this day! If you are not a believer today, Jesus tells us that He is the narrow door and if anyone enters though Him, you will be saved and have eternal life. Don’t wait another minute, if you have breath in your lungs and your heart is still beating, He is calling you this day! It doesn’t matter what you have done, God’s grace is sufficient, and He is calling you today to surrender and call out to a God that loves you and is waiting for you!

Slide

Oh, how can I make this real to you? For there is nothing more real than if your heart stops at this moment, what will happen? There is only one remedy, one Savior and that is Jesus! This truly is the only real thing, everything else that we see every day will fade away, but you have this one moment the opportunity to walk through the narrow gate- don’t delay dear reader!

Another element here for believers is sweet peace! Oh, peace that the Father has called you, the Son died for you and will never let you go, and this very day Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit will guide you and lead you in all truth. This is the ultimate height of the greatest peace and promises you will ever receive in this life. What an incredible harmony in the trinity accomplishing this salvation!

Oh, Dear Lord, we are so unworthy, we are so needy every single hour of the day! Thank you, Father, for calling me by name, thank you Jesus for dying on the cross for me. Jesus we are leaning into your promise that the Holy Spirt will guide us in all truth, we ask for that today. Help us to see what truth is and to be wise with our time this day. Help us to be ready to share this gospel story with the lost and deepen our relationship with you each day as we walk in your word.

Amen.
