"Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness,” and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise that they are futile.”

“For the wisdom of the world is folly with God.”

No doubt we have seen this in recent times. What’s up is down and what’s down is up. Nothing makes sense. I struggle with what to believe about the world – since everyone seems to have their own agenda and willing to make up the facts to support that agenda. This isn’t a political right versus left statement. This is a division of people statement. There is only one right way to think or feel, and if you disagree with that way, then you’re a bigot, insensitive, chauvinistic, close-minded, mean, evil, etc… But the irony is with religious beliefs. All beliefs are accepted, except the ONE true way.

While most American adults self-identify as Christians, they have really deceived themselves. What they actually believe in is religious pluralism -- that people are free to decide what they believe and how they use it in their lives. They may acknowledge Jesus, but they haven’t surrendered to Jesus, and like Pastor Brian taught last week – even the demons acknowledge Jesus.

Being a follower of Jesus is the most open exclusive group in the world. While there is only ONE way – yes ONLY ONE way – to God the Father, it’s the easiest to gain access to. Just say “Yes”. Here is where the folly comes in, while the world says “Yes” to Jesus, they also say “Yes” to worldly ways. They follow astrology, pray to the trees, and believe we’re all one energy. Crystals center and balance your energy, and if you think it, you can manifest it. They gain higher insight and knowledge with each successive life.

You see, we are all searching to fill that empty space in our soul. But as Jesus states, there’s only ONE who can fill that hole. That longing, that searching -- the world can’t satisfy it for you. The “wisdom” of the world is the enemy deceiving you. He is pulling you from the truth to distract you from fulfilling your God-given, God-designed purpose. He fills you with guilt and angst if you proclaim the exclusivity of the Way and tells you that you are being close minded, prejudice, and politically incorrect. He fills you with doubt and thoughts of, “well maybe all gods are the same and lead to the same place.” The enemy knows better, but he has us fooled.

Please hear me -- I’m not pointing fingers or judging. For a long time, I thought the same things. I felt bad when I said that Jesus was the only way and made loopholes for this line of thinking. I said things like, “They are a good person, so I’m sure God will accept them” and “My God is loving, so I’m sure He will see their hearts.” You know what that’s called? Deception. Lies. Half-truths. And the enemy’s favorite weapon. When I started reading the Bible more and learning what it said, NONE of this is in there. It was all just the world pulling at me.

You want the truth? Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6. If you struggle with believing but take it to God in prayer – that is wisdom. If you admit you don’t know what to believe but are willing to fight it out with God – that is wisdom. Wisdom isn’t having it all figured out. Wisdom is “becoming the fool” and admitting you don’t know.

Dear Father God, thank You for Your wisdom and truth. Thank You that we can bring our doubts and questions to You in confidence knowing that You love us. Lord, I pray for those who are believing lies and half-truths. I ask that You open their eyes to the deception they are believing. I ask that You give them a searching and open heart. Father fill me with wisdom to follow Your ways. In Jesus’ precious and holy name I ask these things. Amen.
